Being pregnant is a wonder of nature and speaks for the power of the female body. My Bump’s goal is to show the beauty of the pregnant female body and help women embrace and eternalise the changes their body goes through during this special time.
Sanne Gerritzen-Kikkert, mother of toddler Nova, is the founder of MyBump. She is a neuroscientist at ETH Zürich with a passion for female empowerment: “When I was pregnant with our daughter, Nova, I felt like I was experiencing a true wonder of nature. I loved being pregnant (besides the nausea and pains). Feeling her little signs of life and looking at the transformation my body was going through felt incredibly special. My pregnancy helped me embrace the power and strength of my body. I wanted to capture this unique and precious moment of creating life, but I did not feel like doing a photoshoot or having a plaster cast of my belly. I therefore decided to use 3D technology to create a personalized artwork of my pregnant body. Seeing and feeling my casted pregnant body after my daughter was born was very emotional, it reminded me of the start of our extraordinary journey together.
I want to offer this feeling and tangible memory to other women. My mission is to help women embrace the power and beauty of their bodies. I want to help them see and eternalise the beauty of their (pregnant) bodies. To give them a tangible, beautiful, and unique memory of one of the most extraordinary times of their lives. Together with my husband, David Gerritzen, I therefore founded MyBump, a company that provides women with a casted and personalised sculpture of the time that they were creating a life.”
